The Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme is an initiative of Government of Assam, which rewards meritorious students of Assam. The award was instituted in the honour of Anundoram Borooah, the 1st Assamese ICS and the 1st Indian Deputy Commissioner. Eligible students are those who secured First Division in the HSLC, Assam High Madrassa and Senior Madrassa Examinations. The award is in the form of a certificate and a personal computer (PC or laptop) or a cheque. This scheme is popularly known in Assam as Anundoram Borooah Award (which is not to be confused with the literary award of the same name).
History:
Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme was first announced by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi during the state budget session of 2005. The aim of this scheme was to enhance competition amongst the student and to help them to enrich their perception through up-to-date knowledge and information with the help of IT education. The Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd was given the charge of carrying out the scheme on behalf of the Planning & Development Department, Govt. of Assam.
Anundoram Borooah Award 2005:
The 1st programme of Anundoram Borooah Award was launched by Tarun Gogoi on 14th September, 2005. The central award distribution ceremony was held at the historic Judges Field in Guwahati. The District level award distribution events were held in all districts of Assam. A total of 12756 students were rewarded, out of which 12,649 received a PC each and others opted for a cash cheque.
The Tarun Gogoi led Congress Government of Assam is continuing to offer Anundoram Borooah Award since 2005. The configuration of the personal computer are being updated regularly. Earlier desktop computers were distributes, which are now replaced Linux powered laptops. Several educational software packages comes preloaded with the laptop.
Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme 2013
The central ceremony with rank holders will be held at Veterinary College Playground, Khanapara, Guwahati on November 14, 2013. After that, laptops will be distributed among other eligible students through respective district officials.
Invitation cards for the position holders of HSLC, High Madrassa, Sanskrit Praveshika and Senior Madrassa examination are sent through respective school/madrassa. For more information, you can call the offical helpline number: 031-2724221 (8 AM to 8PM only).
System configuration of the 2013 free laptop: Pentium 2020M 2.4 GHz processor, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM, 14-inch LED display, webcam, Bluetooth, card reader etc. Operating system is Ubuntu Linux and Super X (Dual boot).
