The Government of Assam has a scheme for free treatment of children with Congenital Heart Defect (CHD). Under the scheme, government of Assam arranges treatment of Congenital heart disease in Narayana Hrudyalaya Hospital at Bengaluru and Kolkata. Govt of Assam bears all the cost related to transportation, treatment, food and lodging. This Govt. of Assam sponsored scheme was launched in year 2010.
Congenital heart Defect (CHD) is a defect in the structure of the heart and great vessels which is present at birth. Approximately 9 children in 1000 are born with a congenital heart defect. This birth defect is usually detected in the early age. But in some cases it may go undetected even in later stage of life. CHD is one of the key reasons of birth-defect related deaths. As the cost of treatment is very high, Assam Government has initiated this scheme for the benefit of economically poor families of Assam.
Scheme for Children with Congenital Heart Defect Details:
- Department: Health Department, Govt of Assam
- Target Group: Children between age group of 0-14 years with Congenital heart disease (CHD)
- Benefit: Free treatment of congenital heart defects in Narayana Hrudyalaya Hospital at Bengaluru and Kolkata. Transportation cost, medical expenses and food & lodging cost for patient and a guardian is covered under the scheme.
- Eligibility: Guardian should be permanent residence of Assam state of India with an annual income not exceeding Rs. 6.00 lakhs.
