Bodoland University is an state university located in Debargaon of Kokrajhar, Assam. The 6th schedule University was established under Bodoland University Act 2009, of the Assam legislative Assembly. The new university would cater to the need of the people of the Bodoland Territorial Council and nearby areas. Besides teaching, the University will also promote research, fully need-based, in unexplored areas. The university is actually an up-gradation of the earlier Kokrajhar campus of the Gauhati University.
The Location:
Bodoland University is located in Debargaon area, which is about 9 km away from Kokrajhar town, the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Council. The area is surrounded by small villages, green paddy fields and the Gaurang river. The university campus is well-connected by a road that leads towards and connects the National High Way No 31(C) at Karigaon. Various mode of transport such as bus, auto-rickshaw, taxi are easily available from Kokrajhar town to the Bodoland University.
Facilities:
The university campus has it’s own library with more than 12,000 books. There are two hostels for students. The boys hostel has a capacity of 50, while the girls hostel can accommodate 45.
Courses:
The Bodoland University offers both Masters (M. A. & M. Sc.) and Doctorate (Ph. D.) courses in the following departments:
Assamese, English, Bodo, Economics, History, Political Science, Mathematical Science, Biotechnology, Computer Science & Technology.
Admissions:
Admissions tests are conducted by both Bodo and Computer Science & Technology departments. The rest of the departments enroll students on the basis of marks obtained in previous examinations. In case of doctorate (Ph.D.), entrance test is compulsory.
