What is Mahapurushiya Dharma?

Answer

The neo-Vaishnavism propagated by Sri Sankaradeva is called Mahapurushiya Dharma. Sankardeva was an reformer and people of Assam called him Mahapurusha, which literally means the Great One. This title is not used for any other vaishnava reformer, except Sankaradeva’s chief disciple Sri Madhavdeva. The teachings of Sankaradeva were based on Bhagavata Purana and thus his new religion was initially known as Bhagavati Dharma. But soon the disciples started to eulogize Sankardeva and Madhavadeva as Mahapurusha, and the religion came to be known as the Mahapurushiya Dharma.
