Indramalati (1939) – Assamese Film

Indramalati is the second Assamese feature film. Directed by Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, it is a romantic tale from Assam. The original story was written by Agarwala himself. The major roles in the movie were played by Manoviram Baruah as Indrajit and Raseswari Baruah (Hazarika) as Malati. Assamese music legend Bhupen Hazarika sang "Biswa Bijoyee Navajowan" in Indramalati. He also appeared in a role. Assamese film Indramalati was released in 1939.

After Joymati, Agarwala produced Indramalati under the same banner of Chitralekha Movietone. Shooting of the film started in the late months of 1937. The outdoor scenes in the film were shoot in Talbari, near Tezpur of Assam. The indoor shooting was done at Arora Studio in Kolkata.
