Chameli Memsaab (1975) – Assamese Film

Chameli Memsaab (Sameli Memsaab) is a National Award winning Assamese film from 1970s. The film was directed by Abdul Majid, under the banner of M/S Seuj Bolechari Santha. Music direction in the movie was by Bhupen Hazarika. The lead role in the film (a tea garden girl) was played by Binita Borgohain. Actor George Baker appeared in the role of lead male character in the film. Chameli Memsaab was released in the year 1975. The film won Best Feature Film in Assamese award at the 23rd National Film Awards. It also won National Award for Best Music Composer (Bhupen Hazarika).

Chameli Memsaab Movie Story:

A love story set in the tea gardens of Assam. A British planter (Berkeley, played by George Baker) falls in love with a tea garden worker (Chameli, played by Binita Borgohain). The planter marries the girl and soon finds himself accused of her murder.
