Ananda Ram Barua was the first Assamese to clear Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination. Ananda Ram Barua cleared the prestigious examination on 1870. He was the 5th Indian ICS officer. Yes, before him only four persons were selected to the Indian Civil Service (one of whom was disqualified). Barua joined as District Magistrate and Collector of Bengal.
