Sukapha or Chaolung Sukaphaa was the first King of Ahom Dynasty in Assam. Sukaphaa was the founder of Ahom Dynasty, which rule Assam for 600 years. Sukaphaa was a Prince of Tai state Mong Mao (present day Ruili in Yunnan, China). Sukaphaa left Mong Mao in 1215 and entered Assam via Patkai hills in 1228. Sukaphaa built his capital at Charaideo (near present-day Sibsagar town) and died in 1268.
