Saraighat bridge was the first bridge over river Brahmaputra. It is located in Saraighat, near Guwahati, Assam. Construction of the railway-cum-road bridge started in 1958. It was formally inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru on 1963. The total length of Saraighat Bridge is 1492 meters. It has a 24 feet wide two lane road and two six feet wide footpaths. The lower section of the bridge is used for railway traffic.
