APSC Prelims Exam 2013 Analysis, Cut-off mark etc.

On December 29, 2013 Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) successfully conducted the preliminary stage of Combined Competitive Examination. The Assam Civil Service examination was held at 155 centers spread across 23 districts in Assam. A total of 70132 students were selected for the preliminary examination. But the attendance was low – below 70%. APSC Prelims comprised of two papers – Optional Subject of choice and General Studies. The Optional paper was in morning while General Studies paper was in afternoon shift. Here we will discuss the patterns of the two question papers and also the possible cutoff mark.

APSC 2013 Optional Paper:

We talked to several students and examined some question papers. Majority of the students we talked to commented that the optional paper was easy. But it will be wrong to generalize it based on few comments. But we examined Agriculture, Economics, and Political Science papers. The question pattern was same as previous years. We rated the question papers – average. Students with good preparation can easily score up to 90% in those papers. What about your optional paper?

APSC 2013 General Studies Paper:

Several students complained that General Studies question paper was tough. So, we examined the question paper personally. Yes, the paper appears difficult. But it was not a tough question paper. And if an intelligent student carefully approach each question, it is not even difficult. Civil Service examinations in India usually carries questions related to Constitution of India, Indian Politics, Current Affairs, Reasoning / Mental ability and Regional topics. APSC CCE 2013 was no exception. The question paper covered Indian constitution, Indian economics, general knowledge, geography, Assam history, reasoning etc. We think about 70% of the questions were easy for students with good preparation.

The General Studies question paper carried several Assam related questions (about 30 nos). We found that 10 questions were already answered on our Assam Answers section. So students who followed our site definitely answered those Assam related questions correctly.

APSC 2013 Cutoff Marks:

The Combined Competitive Examination (Preliminary) is divided into two question papers. Each paper carries 100 questions with 2 marks for each individual question. So, the total mark of the APSC CCE (Pre) exam is 400. Then what will be the cut off mark of APSC 2013? As there is no official announcement related to the cutoff mark, we can only speculate. We believe that APSC Prelims 2013 cutoff mark will be within 260 to 280 marks.

  • Tushar,
Chances are more that a similar schedule will be followed. When we inquired last month, APSC front office said something like that.

  • @Babul,
Why do you think mains cut off will shoot up by 200 marks this time? Any reason?

  • @Jogesh Chandra Das,
If you are in Guwahati or can spare a month or two (only 2-3 hours daily) and you have enough cash then you can take coaching. It will lessen your burden and will also provide you with a friend circle to discuss and crack pre exam.

  • @Admin (Assam),
When do you think 2014 pre will be held?? Any un-confirmed news?? Will it be held in Dec’14 like last two times.

  • Jogesh,
Yes, it sounds hard for employed people, but it is not impossible. We know at least 2 central govt employees (Assamese) who cleared Prelims this year. Both of them had hectic work schedules. They get time to study only after dinner. But they continued 2-3 hr study per night and cracked the prelims. What we want to say is that having a day job doesn’t mean one can’t clear APSC or any other exam.

First makeup your mind and prepare a study plan. Say 2 hrs study after dinner, 30 minutes of newspaper reading in the morning, reading general studies topics on mobile (while traveling or during break) etc. Point is feed your brain and utilize your free time. You have more than 6 months to prepare. That’s more than enough.

    All the best.

  • @babul … u mean to say out of 1400 right ?

Dear Sir, I am preparing for the APSC pre 2014. But I am a private employee and have to work till 8 or 8.30 pm every day. After my duty I reach my home at around 9.00 or 9.30 pm. My optional subject is Indian History. Can I expect to clear the first step i.e. pre? Nowadays I am very much disappointed with my career and life. Please suggest me in a right way.

    Thanks @tushar .
also i think all those who have applied for apsc pre 2014 should properly check the journal no twice because while entering the journal no , the no is simply accepted and if a person have given a wrong journal number(by mistake) , then at the later stage the application might be cancalled. so check properly …….

  • @Abijit Kalita ,
    Yes you are safe.

    @Liza Bhuyan,
Yes , I have applied the journal number for higher registration number (Eg: XXXXXXX4123 )only.
For my first applicationform (Eg: XXXXXXX4000), i did not do anything.

  • Higher registration number completed in all aspects is accepted only.

    @Tushar , Thanks for the information…
But , first i register and everything was successful. I got applicationform(PDF ) only but could not get other two BankChallan,RegistrationSlip(PDF) due to apsc website error(Error Encounter!). Registration No is (Eg: XXXXXXX4000 ).

Then, again i fill the form newly. I got all the three pdf. This time the registration no is different (Eg: XXXXXXX4123 ). so , i paid the fees and upload the journal number for second regis no (i.e XXXXXXX4123 ) and also got Journal Entry Conformation Slip.
So , Is the procedure ok ?

  • @Abijit Kalita ,
If you have not faced any problem in applying then your application went through okay and in due course of time you will get your admit card.
AND do not re-apply, it might led to rejection of both of your application.

  • Abijit Kalita on

Hi friends , i have applied for apsc cce pre 2014 and also filled the Journal Number. I also got Journal Entry Conformation Slip.
But how will i be sure that my application is perfectly fine and will receive call letter . I mean, in later stage if they find mistake and reject my application then it may be a problem for me. and if last date is over then i cannot fill new registration form. Any idea plz help guys ..

  • @chandan,
No single book will be sufficient. Look for individual books for each section.
