Jagannath Barooah College

Jagannath Barooah College (aka J.B. College) is one of the premier educational institutes in Upper Assam. Located in Jorhat, Assam, India, the J.B College offers Higher Secondary, Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses. The J.B College was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2003. NAAC awarded it B+ grade on the basis of its performance in the field of higher education.

The institute was founded as Upper Assam College in 1930. Later the name was changed to Jorhat College. Then on 25th June 1938, it was renamed as Jagannath Barooah College in recognition of the commodious building ‘Borpatra Kutir’ along with the previous land owner, Murulidhar Barooah. Murulidhar Barooah had inherited this property from his grandfather Jagganath Barooah. Jagganath Barooah was the first graduate of Upper Assam in 1872 from Presidency College, Calcutta.
