Cotton College of Guwahati, Assam, is one the most prestigious colleges in India. It offers several courses including Higher Secondary (Science & Arts), Bachelor degrees (Science & Arts), Postgraduate degrees (Science & Arts), Bachelor of Computer Applications and Doctoral studies in selected fields. Since inception, Cotton College has contributed significantly towards educational and cultural uplifting of the entire North East India. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited Cotton College with a CGPA of 3.39 on four point scale at A grade.
The Cotton college was established on 27th May, 1901. The college was named after Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the then chief commissioner of Assam province under British rule. Cotton College first affiliated to Calcutta University, Kolkata. Later in 1948, it came under Gauhati University. On 17th October, 1992, Cotton College was declared as a Post-Graduate institution. Currently, Cotton College has a strong faculty of 242 members and a student enrolment strength of more than 5000. The Cotton College campus covers an area of about 34 acres. The campus has fully equipped infrastructure such as modern classrooms, science laboratories, library, an indoor stadium, hospital, guest house and separate hostels for boys and girls.
