The answer keys are provided in .pdf format. So, you need to use a pdf viewer to see the answers. Make sure that your computer or device has pdf viewer. Otherwise, you’ll find it difficult to view the contents of those official APSC answer keys.

In the General Studies answer key, we spotted at least 4 wrong answers. Please find the details below and give your comments.

APSC CCE 2014 Answer Key Wrong Answers:

Q 36. The largest source of power supply in India is a) hydroelectric power, b) Thermal power, c) renewable source, d) nuclear power.
Answer: According to APSC it is d) Nuclear power. That’s a joke. The largest source of power in India is b) Thermal power and it’s share is more than 50%.

Q 40. In the last decade, which one among the following sectors has attracted the highest foreign direct investment inflows into India?
Answer: According to APSC, it is b) Telecommunication. But the correct answer is d) Service sector. Like we said before in our answer key, we can produce many official Govt of India documents in support of this. Looks like APSC experts refer some old books, not the latest available information.

Q 85. In which year, Kushal Konwar was hanged by the British and for what cause?
Answer: As per APSC answer key, correct answer is c) 1942, declared guilty of conspiracy for a train derailment near Golaghat. But that’s wrong. The year was 1943, not 1942.

Q 86. Who was the Ahom King in Assam during the mutiny of 1857?
Answer: According to APSC, answer is b) Kandarpeswar Singha. Yes, that looks like obvious one. But, there was no Ahom King during that period. Yes, there was Kandarpeswar Singha, who was conferred with Charing Raja title. But Charing Raja title was not meant for an actual King. So, we still believe the correct answer should be d) None of them.

Q 87. Who was the first Assamese to join the Indian National Congress during its Second session held in 1886?
Answer: According to APSC answer key, answer is c) Devicharan Baruah. But, we say both a) Gopinath Bordoloi and c) Devicharan Baruah are correct. Because, there are various documents including Assam Congress website, mentioning Gopinath Bordoloi (not Chief Minister Bordoloi) and Devicharan Baruah attending the 1886 session of Indian National Congress.

As it is partially correct, we can accept the answer of question number 86. But there is no doubt about the other questions. The official APSC answers are wrong for question number 36, 40, 85 and 87.

Note: We are referring to Set A of General Studies paper.

Documents or data for reference:

Question number 36.
There should not be any debate regarding this question. The Power Ministry data shows share of Thermal Power is 69.6% (coal, gas & oil combined, as on October 22, 2014). The same webpage shows share of Nuclear power is 1.9%. The URL is: http://powermin.nic.in/indian_electricity_scenario/introduction.htm
Indian Power Sector Data
Another reference, download the Energy Statistics 2014 data from Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI). The download link is: http://mospi.nic.in/mospi_new/upload/Energy_stats_2014.pdf. Go to section 2.3 with heading Installed generating capacity of electricity. The 5th point clearly shows the share of thermal sector as 67.16% (till March, 2013).

Question number 40.
The question clearly asked which sector attracted most FDI inflow. If we understand English correctly, the question was not about which sector has 100% FDI.
FDI sectoral data
For reference, download the FDI factsheet for August 2014 from Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) website. You can download the document from this link: http://dipp.nic.in/English/Publications/FDI_Statistics/2014/india_FDI_August2014.pdf. Open the document and so to Annex-B (page 8). There you’ll find official Govt of India data showing sector-wise FDI share from year 2000 to 2014. The percentage share of Service sector is 17.66%, while share of telecommunications is 10.35%.

Question 85.
The question asked about the year and reason of Kushal Konwar’s hanging. Kushal Konwar was hanged on June 15, 1943. He was found guilty of involvement in train derailment in Sarupathar, near Golaghat, Assam. There are many references to support this. So, the correct answer should be d) None of the above.

Regarding Question 86, we are 100% sure that Kandarpeswar Singha was not a King. Already referred to some old documents and one Ahom historian. But some new books have different information. History is such a subject. Many things are presented in twisted form. Looks like, it will difficult to persuade APSC and many other people. But we will maintain our stand. That answer is wrong.

  • Could anyone pls tell me if the age relaxation for OBCs has been done away with in APSE CCE? I believe APSC is not considering the 3 year relaxation for OBCs and not accepting the applications of those who have already cleared the prelims and had already crossed the 38 years mark. Any idea if there is any gazette published on this matter. Admin pls comment.
