Ilbert Bill was a bill introduced in 1883 by Viceroy Ripon. It proposed changes in existing laws, under which Europeans were not allowed to be judged by an Indian Judge or Indian Magistrate. Europeans didn’t liked the idea of being tried by an Indian Judge or Magistrate. They opposed it aggressively. Ultimately Ripon was forced to make changes to the bill to satisfy the British.
