Baksa District, Assam

Baksa is one of the 27 districts in Assam. It was created in year 2003 by using parts of Barpeta, Nalbari, and Kamrup districts. Baksa district is bounded by Bhutan in North; Udalguri district in East; Barpeta, Kamrup and Nalbari districts in South; and Chirang district in West. The district has three sub-divisions: Mushalpur, Tamulpur and Salbari. The headquarters of Baksa district are located at Mushalpur town. The total area covered by the district is 2400 square km.

Demographics:

As per 2011 India Census, Baksa district has a population of 953,773. The population density in the district is 475 person per square km. Sex ratio is 967 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate of Baksa district is 70.93%. Major tribes in the district are Bro, Rabha, Sarania kachari and Madahi. Languages spoken Baksa district include Boro, Assamese and Rabha.

Places of Tourist Interest:

Most parts of the Manas National Park are under Baksa district of Assam. The national park is 45km away from district headquarters. Other tourist attractions in Baksa district include Kokilabari, Moina Pukhuri, Bhangtar and Bagamati.
