Haflong, Assam

Haflong is a beautiful hill station and one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Assam. The word ‘Haflong means" "White Ants Hillock".  It is located between 25°11′ North and 93°02′ East. The average elevation of Haflong is 1683 feet (513 meters). Haflong is the headquarters of present Dima Hasso (North Cachar Hills) district of Assam.

Haflong is a place with different tribes and culture. Major languages spoken in Haflong are Hmar, Haflong Hindi Zeme Naga, Kuki, Biate, Hrangkhawl, Vaiphei, Jaintia, English, Bengali and Dimasa.

Places to visit in and around Haflong:

  • Haflong town: A beautiful town amidst hills.
  • Maibang: Former capital of Kachari (Dimasa) Kingdom.
  • Jatinga: Famous for bird suicide mystery.
  • Umrangso: Hydel project with dams in the Kopili river.
  • Panimoor: Kopili River turns into a beautiful waterfall.
  • Pathar Nalla waterfalls
  • Khrungming Reserve Forest
  • Laisong, Gunjung, Khorongma, Harangajao etc.

Haflong is about 300 km away from Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. It can be reached either via road or railway. There is no air connectivity available at this moment. Regular bus services to Haflong are available from Guwahati.
