Mendes was born in Miami, to Cuban parents on March 5, 1974. She was raised in Los Angeles by her mother after her parents’ divorce. As a child she never dreamed about becoming an actress and gravitated toward interior design and marketing. In college she began acting, studying underneath acting coach Ivana Chubbuck. This led to her desire to appear in feature films.

In December 2007, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) used a nude photo of Mendes for their anti-fur campaign alongside the tagline “Fur? I’d rather go naked.” Mendes was voted as No. 4 in the 2008 edition of AskMen.com’s Top 99 Most Desirable Women.

“Quantum Of Solace”, the 22nd 007 movie, pulled in nearly $30 million more during opening weekend than its predecessor “Casino Royale”, that was released in 2006. In global market, the movie has already earned more than $250 million in last two weeks.

The latest James Bond movie is directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig as Agent 007. Other actors of “Quantum of Solace” includes Mathieu Amalric, Olga Kurylenko, Gemma Arterton, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright and Giancarlo Giannini. In it’s UK releases, the movie raked in 4.9 million pounds in ticket sales and broke previous UK box-office record created by “Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire”.

Vitamin C and E does not lower Cancer risks

The study, funded by the National Institutes of Health and several vitamin makers, tracked cancer risk in 14,641 male U.S. doctors who took either 400 IU of vitamin E every other day or a placebo, or 500 milligrams of vitamin C daily or a placebo. Their average age was 64 at the start of the study and they were followed for eight years on average.

Out of the participants, the researchers found a total of 1,929 cases of cancer, including 1,013 prostate cancers. Overall, 490 men taking vitamin E developed prostate cancer compared to 523 in the placebo group. Similar results were seen for vitamin C. The overall risk of cancer generally was also not statistically significant between the two groups.

Dr Howard Sesso, an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston, Massachusetts said that “Numerous studies conducted before had suggested vitamin C,E might prevent cancer, but the current trial results contradicts with the previous studies and does not convince us that C & E vitamins have any role in preventing cancer. Until other evidences comes out there is no reason why one should take vitamin E and C supplements.”

Rare Albino Hedgehog

Mrs Packham said Telegraph: “We saw this white hedgehog and could not really believe our eyes. He was literally glowing in the dark. We took it to the sanctuary because we wanted it to be safe and we did not want to put it into a box for the night. We did not want it to be attacked by badgers.”

Hedgehog is a small spiny mammalsof the subfamily Erinaceinae and the order Erinaceomorpha. There are 16 species of hedgehog in five genera, found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. It is reported that only one in every 100,000 hedgehogs are thought to be born with the gene that causes the little animal to be albino. The Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital founder Les Stocker said the albino hedgehog was a young male, probably born last spring, and was incredibly rare.
