He is member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and represents Jorhat constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly. Previously he was a member of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Hitendra Nath Goswami assumed charge as the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly in January, 2017.
