Syeda Anwara Taimur became first Women Chief Minister of Assam. She became Chief Minister of Assam on December 6, 1980. Taimur was a leader of Indian National Congress party. She was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) four times (1972, 1978, 1983 and 1991) and was also nominated for Rajya Sabha (1988). Anwara Taimur is the only female Chief Minister of Assam. She served in the post from December 6, 1980 to June 30, 1981.
