PayPal, the popular online money transfer service, have temporarily suspended "Personal Payments" to and from India. While customers can still make commercial payments to India, merchants cannot withdraw funds in Rupees to local Indian banks, as transfers to all local banks in India have also been suspended.
According to official PayPal blog, "personal payments to and from India and transfers to local banks in India have been suspended while we work with our business partners and other stakeholders to address questions they have about the service."
This move was sudden and unexpected. Thousands of Indian PayPal users, including freelancers that accepts payments via PayPal, were affected by this move.
But, why only Indian transactions? According to some sources, PayPal has taken this action at the request of the Indian Government. But, we are not sure about it. So, better wait for an official statement.
