Indian faked attack to claim insurance money!

Assam News · February 3, 2010

An Indian man who claimed to have been racially attacked was found to have accidentally set himself on fire while trying to torch his car for claiming insurance, Australian police said on Wednesday.

Last month, Jaspreet Singh, 29, suffered burns to 15% of his body when his car was engulfed by flames in Melbourne. After the accident, Jaspreet told police that he was attacked by four men and his attackers deliberately set him on fire. Singh received 11,000 Australian dollars in insurance money after the incident.

Australian detectives have now alleged that it was not an attack, but an attempt to defraud insurance company to get money. They have enough proofs to prove it. Jaspreet Singh is now accused of criminal damage and lying to police. He will appear in court next month.
