Fresh avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir, 1 dead

Just one day after 17 soldiers were killed in Gulmarg, another avalanche hit an Indian Army border post in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. According to Indian Army sources, the army post in Tangdhar sector of the Line of Control (LOC) in Kupwara district was struck by the avalanche at around 2.45 a.m.(IST). It killed one soldier. An rescue operation was launched immediately and 14 Indian Army soldiers were rescued.

Earlier on Monday, a deadly avalanche left 17 soldiers dead when it struck in a high altitude training camp of the army in Khilanmarg, Gulmarg. Indian Defence Minister AK Antony today expressed his deep anguish at the tragic loss of lives of many army personnel due to the massive avalanche.
