Petitioner told to watch Taare Zameen Par

A person who approached the Delhi High Court describing dyslexia as a mental disorder, has been advised by the court to watch Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par. Reacting to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by one S.C. Jain, the Delhi High Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah asked the petitioner to watch "Taare Zameen Par" to know what is dyslexia.

Taare Zameen Par Mr. S.C. Jain, the petitioner, had filed the PIL to ask the Central government to appoint clinical psychologists in government hospitals to treat mental diseases, including dyslexia. Perceiving that Mr. S.C. Jain did not have a clear understanding of dyslexia, Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah asked him to see the Bollywood movie, which is about an young boy suffering from the learning disorder.

"You must have VCD at home. See Taare Zameen Par to understand about the problem of dyslexia," the court said.

Bollywood movie "Taare Zameen Par" tells the story of an eight year old boy named Ishaan who suffers greatly until a teacher identifies him as dyslexic. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that manifests itself as a difficulty with reading and spelling. It is in no way a mental disorder.
