Indian set on fire in Australia
Assam News · January 9, 2010
Racial violence against Indian people continues in Australia. In a fresh attack, an Indian-origin man was set on fire by four Australians in Essendon, Melbourne on early Saturday. The 29-year-old victim, identified as Jaspreet Singh, was admitted to a local hospital with 15 per cent burns in body.
Jaspreet Singh was attacked in Essendon, when he had just come home from a dinner party with his wife and went to park his car. The attackers reportedly poured some fluid over the Indian and set him on fire. This attack comes just a week after 21-year-old Indian man Nitin Garg was stabbed to death in the streets of West Footscray.
Australian police said they do not know why he was targeted, but like in all other previous cases involving Indians, police said that they don’t think the attack was racially motivated. Now, what we can say on this? Either Australian police is immature or they support violence against Indians. After so many attacks on people of Indian-origin in the streets of Australia, the authorities continues to deny involvement of racial hate in those crimes. Why? This is weird and not a sign of civilized society.
