India test fires nuclear-capable ‘Dhanush’ missile

India on Sunday successfully tested ‘Dhanush’, a nuclear-capable ballistic missile. The single-stage ship-based missile was flight-tested at around 11.31 am (0601 GMT) from a warship in Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast.

India Dhanush Missile ‘Dhanush’ (meaning "bow") is a naval variant of Prithvi missile developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It has a payload capacity of 500 kg and can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads upto a range of 350 km. The single-stage ship-based missile can strike both sea and shore-based targets.

Today, Dhanush was launched from INS Subhadra ship 35 km off shore the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Orissa.
