Indian Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday slammed the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for a failed online test and ordered a probe into the server crash during the online Common Admission Test (CAT) examination that affected more than 8,000 students all over India.
"We have sought a detailed report on the virus problem during the CAT examination," Sibal said.
Sibal added that as per the HRD Ministry’s report, out of the total 45,367 appearing candidates; 8,297 could not appear in the test. Steps will be taken to ensure that students do not face similar technical glitches in the future and the IIMs would decide the next date of the examination, not the government said Sibal.
CAT is the common admission test for entry into IIMs and other premier business schools in India. After deciding to adopt the online exam method, IIMs had decided to hold the exam on 10 different days instead of conducting it on one day. Around 240,000 students have registered for the computerized CAT this year. But since Saturday, server crashes are creating troubles for IIMs.
Now, people have started to question on the credibility of IIMs to hold online test. Are they well equipped with resources and manpower to hold such important tests online? Shame on you IIMs.
