Assam News · December 10, 2009

On Thursday afternoon, a powerful explosions rocked Sonitpur district of Assam. The IED blast ripped through the crowded Gorubandha weekly market adjacent to the army base and police station at Misamari, killing a child and injuring more than 38. Death toll may increase, as some are critically injured and being treated in various hospitals.

According to police sources, the child was badly injured and succumbed to his injuries at the Kanaklata Civil Hospital at the district headquarter town of Tezpur. Some critically injured persons have been shifted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

Police blamed the outlawed militant outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for the attack. NDFB is the same outfit responsible for last year’s October 30 serial bomb blasts in Guwahati, which caused at least 77 deaths and 470 injuries.
