Larissa Ramos of Brazil crowned as Miss Earth 2009

Brazilian beauty Larissa Ramos has been named Miss Earth 2009. On Sunday, November 22, the 20-year-old biology student was crowned with the coveted title at the island resort of Boracay in central Philippines. The first, second and third runner ups of Miss Earth 2009 are Sandra Seifert from Philippines, Jessica Barboza from Venezuela and Alejandra Echevarria from Spain respectively.

Launched in 2001, the goal of Miss Earth Beauty Pageant is to have it’s contestants and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth. The winner of the Miss Earth contest serves as the Ambassador to environmental protection campaigns worldwide. Besides supporting environmental protection programs, the beauty pageant also aims to showcase and promote various tourist destinations.
This year, all total 79 contestants from all over the world participated in the Miss Earth beauty pageant. The venue was Boracay Ecovillage Resort and Convention Center in the colorful island of Boracay, Philippines.
