Assam News · November 24, 2009
On Monday, India for the first time test-fired a nuclear-capable missile during night-time. Agni-II, the surface-to-surface missile with a range of more than 2000 km (1250 miles), was test-fired from from Wheeler’s Island, off Orissa coast at around 7.50pm on Monday.
The test launch was significant from India’s strategic point of view. But according to some official sources, Agni-II failed to get the desired results during the night-time testing. The Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) reportedly deviated from its coordinated path after the second stage separation. Agni-II is capable of carrying a nuclear payload of 1000 kg.
