The BSF has handed over the two top ULFA leaders, arrested in the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura, to Assam Police. ULFA foreign secretary Sashadhar Choudhury and finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika were flown into Guwahati on Friday night in a special aircraft by a team of Assam Police officials. Assam police now started their interrogation.

"We have taken over the custody of the two ULFA leaders and they will be produced in a court here today for further custody," Additional Director General of Assam Police Khagen Sarma told Indian news agency PTI.

Sashadhar Choudhury and Chitraban Hazarika were picked up by Bangladeshi authorities on November 1 and then pushed back to India. On Saturday, Kamrup chief judicial magistrate Robin Phukan remanded the two to 10 days’ police custody. The special branch of the Assam Police has started their interrogation and they will be joined by sleuths of central intelligence agencies soon. Replying to questions from journalists in the court premises Choudhury told that they had not surrendered and expressed ignorance about the identity of the persons who had detained them in Bangladesh.

On the other hand, the banned outfit called a 12-hour Assam bandh on Monday protesting the "military action" and demanding release of Choudhury and Hazarika.
