SULFA to Cooperate in Assam Peace Efforts

On Thursday, more than one thousand surrendered ULFA members (SULFAs) gathered in Milon Mandir of Sivasagar town of Assam, in a meeting presided over by Jogen Mohan and discussed about their future course of social activities, their problems alleged negligence of the government, the society, and media.
In the meeting a series of resolutions were taken, including a resolution to extend all support to peace efforts in Assam whichever organization it may come from and to oppose disruptive forces. They also urged all government semi-govt and private companies engaged in hydrocarbon exploration in the district to reserve 50 per cent jobs to the qualified SULFAs, relaxation in age bar and pleaded to concerned authorities to lift court cases against SULFAs in a phased manner, in order to restore work culture among them.
A 71-member executive committee under the name “Sanmilita Unnayan Parishad, Asom” was formed in the meeting with Anjan Jyoti Gogoi as the president, Bipul Kalita as working president, Simanta Phukan as general secretary Kailash Jit Duta, Probin Gogoi, Ahindra Saikia, Atul Gogoi, Duleswar Gogoi, Utpal Syam as asstt. secretaries, Napurba Dutta as organising secretary, Arabinda Chetia as publicity secretary and Raj Bhusan Gogoi as treasurer. The meeting selected Brazil Chutia, Kamal Siring, Jiten Gogoi, Raj Kumar Duora, Budheswar Dihingia, Anjan Jyoti Gogoi, Simanta Phukan and Mridul Phukan as members of the core committee.
The meeting also demanded use of Assamese alongside English in all signboards in Assam, improvement in road communication and proper anti-erosion measures in the district in flood prime areas of the state.

India-Pakistan exchanges lists of Nuclear installations
