On Monday, normal life in Assam was affected due to a 12-hour bandh called by Left parties, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party in protest against the recent hike in fuel and cooking gas prices. These political parties had called for the 12-hour bandh separately.
The ‘Assam Bandh’ passed off peacefully and there was no reports of any unwanted incidents. In Guwahati, traders and shop-owners downed their shutters and banks and financial institutions, educational institutions and fuel pumps remained closed. Well, hundreds of picketers were arrested by police in different parts Assam, when they tried to block highways and roads.

The CPI(M), CPI, CPI (ML) and the RSP have called for a rail and road blockade on June 11 on the same issue of recent hike in fuel and cooking gas prices.
