Flagged off by Tarun Gogoi from the Pragjyoti complex, each hospital on wheels consists of three vehicles — two 709 Tata buses equipped with an out-patient department, laboratory, essential diagnostic accessories powered by generators and a Mahindra Scorpio for the medical team.
These mobile units will visit far-flung areas of the state at an appointed time and date regularly, ensuring that the underprivileged population has access to quality healthcare.
“Access to doctors in some parts of the state, especially in far-flung areas, is still a luxury. But things will change for the better for the rural population as wheels of change have now been set in motion. I have no doubt that the mobile medical units will bring about a sea change in the rural health scenario by taking healthcare to the doorsteps of the people,” Gogoi said.
Introduced under the National Rural Health Mission, the mobile medical units are equipped with X-Ray machines, a microscope, ECG machine, ultrasound, autoclaves, auto-analyser, stretchers and a pharmacy.
Two doctors, two nurses, a lab technician, a radiographer and a pharmacist will be part of each mobile medical unit. A mobile medical unit each will be provided to each of the 27 districts of the state.
