Assam Non-Government Education Regulatory Act

The Assam cabinet has approved the Assam Non-Government Education Regulatory Act, 2006 to regulate the establishment and functioning of private educational institutions in the state. The Act seeks to cover issues like permission to set up the institutions, administrative recognition along with fixation of fee structure, registration and recognition of existing institutes.

The Act also seeks to constitute a state administrative recognition committee, academic permission and fixation of the basic requirement for establishing such institutions. The Act will keep a watch on the facilities to be provided by these institutions, composition, powers and functions of their academic committees, appointment criteria for teaching and non-teaching staff and curriculum and syllabi of these institutions and prohibition of donations in these institutions.

The Cabinet also approved a proposal of the Education Department to appoint retired teachers on contractual basis in the lower primary, middle and high schools till the vacancies are filled up by regular appointments. via Hindu
